United Kingdom is a signatory of the 1951 United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. This means that you can claim asylum in UK if you have a well-founded fear of persecution on return to your country of origin because of your race, religion, nationality, political opinion or member of a particular social group. If you don’t qualify for refugee status you may qualify for humanitarian protection as well.
UK Border Agency expects that a person who wishes to claim asylum in UK should make a claim as soon as possible at the earliest opportunity. In order to make an application for asylum, you should personally attend one of the asylum screening units of the UK Border Agency.
